Less than 10 miles from central Austin, this park is great for any trail runner. The east Austin park offers 5.5 miles of single and double track trails as well as an additional 3 miles of paved trails on the south side. What draws most of us Austin runners to the trail is the awesome swimming holes at the upper and lower falls. Taking a swim break every so often keeps you cool during the hotter months here in Austin (half the year).
Tips - We noticed the soil is thick and full of clay and will be sticky if raining. Run on a dry day!
Stay out of the bushes. They are loaded with Poison Ivy, so be cautious if emergency pit stops must happen.
#2 The trails are not technical. When we say this we mean they are flat (for the most part), only a few sections are rocky or rooted, and there aren't a ton of twists and turns every 50 meters.
#3 The map is easy to follow and there are a few short sections like the Flint Rock Trail you can try out without having to commit to the entire 5.5 mile loop
